Shirley Ballas, the head judge of Strictly Come Dancing, recently faced a frightening situation that led to her hospitalization due to concerns about a potential skull fracture following a serious fall.
The incident occurred when Shirley fell backward and struck her head against a glass dressing table, prompting immediate medical attention. As a precaution, doctors conducted a brain scan to assess her condition. Following this alarming event, Shirley took to social media to reassure her fans about her well-being.
In an update shared on her Instagram story, she expressed heartfelt gratitude to those who inquired about her health. "Thank you to all who reached out to see how I'm doing. It was a scary fall backwards hitting my head on the glass dressing table :(. I had to go to the hospital for a brain scan," she wrote. Fortunately, she reported that there was no skull fracture. "I’ll take some time to rest and heal my neck and back," she added, thanking her friend Barbara McColl for helping her arrange an emergency appointment and for staying by her side throughout the day. She concluded her message with a note of thankfulness as her doctor remarked that she was quite fortunate, finishing her post with a heart emoji.
This unsettling incident comes on the heels of Shirley’s recent admission that she is open to dating again after her breakup in 2024. She ended a six-year relationship with Danny Taylor, whom she met during a pantomime, in November of that year.
While Shirley is exploring the dating scene, she has clear ideas about what she desires in a partner. Attributes such as humor, intelligence, and generosity are high on her list. "I may have been on a date or two. I understand my own truth and authentic self, and if I feel like going out, I will. It’s nothing serious—no labels or tags involved," she stated.
In a conversation with the Daily Mail, she elaborated, "Over the years, I've encountered several wonderful people. If someone asks me out and I'm interested, I go for it; otherwise, I pass. I’m quite cautious when dating—I prefer to know someone for a while before going out with them."
When discussing her ideal man, Shirley emphasized the importance of humor and intellect. "I appreciate someone who is generous as well. I’ve always been the one covering the bill, so it’s refreshing when someone insists, 'No, I’ve got this.' I find that delightful. It’s appealing to meet someone who is smart, well-groomed, and takes care of themselves. That’s the type of guy I’m drawn to."
Reflecting on her past relationship, she recounted how she and Danny were engaged before their split in November 2024. "We started as friends during a pantomime. Our romance didn’t really ignite until March for him, although I think I was in love at first sight. He was navigating a tough situation in his previous relationship, which brought us closer as friends before I confessed my feelings to him."
In an exclusive interview with The Mirror in August 2025, Shirley candidly discussed her relationship dynamics, noting that they were not progressing together anymore. She mentioned that despite showering Danny with gifts as a way to express her love, she realized that she was increasingly concerned about issues in his life while also managing her own challenges.
