KT Wiz Signs Former MLB Pitcher Caleb Boushley
SEOUL, Nov. 26 (Yonhap) -- The KT Wiz have bolstered their pitching staff by signing Caleb Boushley, a former Major League Baseball (MLB) pitcher, to a one-year contract. The deal, worth up to $1 million, includes a guaranteed $900,000 and an additional $100,000 in incentives. This marks a significant addition to the team's rotation, joining fellow ex-big leaguer Matt Sauer.
Boushley, a 32-year-old right-hander, made his MLB debut with the Milwaukee Brewers in 2023 after being drafted by the San Diego Padres in 2017. He has since pitched for the Minnesota Twins and the Texas Rangers, appearing in a career-high 25 games for the latter in 2025. Despite not recording a win-loss record, Boushley's 6.02 ERA over 43 1/3 innings is a testament to his resilience.
In September, Boushley was selected by the Tampa Bay Rays but didn't pitch in the big leagues, instead logging three games for their Triple-A team, the Durham Bulls. This year, he posted a 2-1 record with a 2.14 ERA in 11 Triple-A outings, including five starts, striking out 24 batters while walking 13. His pitching repertoire includes a sinker, four-seam fastball, cutter, changeup, slider, and curveball.
The Wiz's recent acquisitions include Japanese pitcher Koki Sugimoto, who fills their Asian quota for the new season, and Kim Hyun-soo, the 2025 Korean Series MVP. With these additions, the Wiz are the busiest team in the domestic market, already acquiring a maximum of three free agents. This move further strengthens their position as a competitive force in the league.
