The BomaYangu Lumumba Affordable Housing Project, located in Kisumu Central Constituency, is a shining example of this transformation. During an inspection tour, Principal Secretary Charles Hinga praised the project's impact. He highlighted how the 2,384-unit residential complex addresses the housing shortage in the county. This project is part of a broader initiative, with similar developments in 111 constituencies across 47 counties. Hinga emphasized the auxiliary infrastructure within these project areas, aiming to empower the community economically.
The project encompasses 452 social housing units, 1,192 affordable housing units, and 740 market-rate housing units. This mixed-income approach is a key feature of the gated-community concept, ensuring residents have easy access to essential amenities like schools, commercial centers, hospitals, and recreational spaces.
The presence of Principal Secretary for Basic Education, Amb. Julius Bitok, at the inspection tour further underscores the project's comprehensive approach. He expressed enthusiasm for the project's integration of key amenities, including its proximity to Kaloleni Muslim Primary School, United Mall, and Kisumu Polytechnic.
