Jason Statham's 'Taken' Meets 'John Wick' Action Thriller Works Hard to Dominate Streaming

Jonathan Fuge is a writer and editor at MovieWeb. A Film Studies graduate and all-round movie lover, he has written for a variety of different entertainment websites before finding a home at MovieWeb.
Jason Statham continues to prove why he's become such an action movie icon as his latest effort continues to punch its way to dominance on streaming. The actor and martial artist is now one of the biggest and best names in the game thanks to his commitment to bringing explosively no-nonsense genre fare to the masses, with his movies buoyed by his effortless charm, gruff persona, and desire to throw down with anyone who looks at him the wrong way.
And this time, he’s on the hunt for human traffickers in a movie that smashes together elements of modern action classics 'Taken' and 'John Wick' to form a powerful action thriller fist. The Stath takes center stage as a man with a secret, violent past who is tasked with finding a young girl who’s been kidnapped, delivering all the headshots you could ask for as he uses his particular set of skills to unleash his inner Baba Yaga and bring her home.
Directed by 'The Beekeeper's' David Ayer with a script from Statham's 'The Expendables' co-star Sylvester Stallone, and based on the 2014 novel 'Levon's Trade' by Chuck Dixon, 'A Working Man' stars David Harbour ('Stranger Things', 'Thunderbolts'), Michael Peña ('End of Watch'), Jason Flemyng ('Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels'), Arianna Rivas ('The Black Phone 2'), Noemi Gonzalez ('Selena: The Series'), and Emmett J. Scanlan ('Peaky Blinders', 'Kin') alongside Statham. You can check out the official synopsis for 'A Working Man' below...
'Levon Cade left behind a decorated military career in the black ops to live a simple life working construction. But when his boss's daughter, who is like family to him, is taken by human traffickers, his search to bring her home uncovers a world of corruption far greater than he ever could have imagined.'

Combining elements of 'Taken' and sprinkling in some 'John Wick' has unsurprisingly proven to be popular with audiences on streaming, with 'A Working Man' continuing to hold firm on both the global and U.S. charts on Prime Video, as well as climbing the Top 10 on MGM+. And this is despite 'A Working Man' proving to be deeply divisive among critics and audiences upon release. The action outing now holds a green-splattered 47% from critics on the review aggregator site, alongside a 'Verified Hot' 87% from audiences on the Popcornmeter. 'The Stath stoically and reliably delivers high-octane action in 'A Working Man', a bang bang shoot’ em up that pairs perfectly with hot, buttery popcorn,' the audience consensus reads.
While audiences continue to stream 'A Working Man' in large numbers, it won’t be long before Jason Statham returns to doing what he does best on the big screen. The action star is all set to join forces with Ric Roman Waugh ('Greenland', 'Angel Has Fallen', 'Greenland 2: Migration') for this month’s 'Shelter'. Written by Ward Parry, 'Shelter' also boasts an all-star cast that includes Bodhi Rae Breathnach ('Hamnet'), Bill Nighy ('Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest'), Naomi Ackie ('Blink Twice'), and Daniel Mays ('Rogue One: A Star Wars Story') alongside The Stath. 'Shelter' is due to be released in theaters on January 30, 2026, courtesy of Black Bear Pictures, and you can check out the official synopsis below...
