In what could be one of the biggest management surprises of the Formula 1 season, Aston Martin is reportedly preparing to remove Andy Cowell from his dual role as CEO and team principal. The move comes just months after Cowell—best known for his leadership at Mercedes High Performance Powertrains—took over from Martin Whitmarsh in October 2024. Early this year, a major restructuring saw him also assume the team principal duties, while Mike Krack shifted into a new position as Chief Trackside Officer.

And this is the part most fans didn’t expect — Cowell’s potential replacement might be none other than Andreas Seidl, the experienced former McLaren and Stake team boss. Seidl had left McLaren before the start of the 2023 season to join the Volkswagen Group, where he led Stake as it prepared to transform into Audi’s full works F1 entry for 2026. His mid-2024 exit, replaced by ex-Ferrari team principal Mattia Binotto, may have left him available for another high-profile seat — and Aston Martin could be his next destination.
When asked for comment, Aston Martin Aramco didn’t deny the growing speculation. In a carefully worded statement, a spokesperson said the team would not engage in “rumour or speculation,” adding that their current focus remains on “maximising performance in the remaining races and preparing for 2026.”
